Doctors are now confirming a surprising fact: vitamin D behaves more like a hormone than a conventional vitamin within the body.

Forget lemons and rosehips! Acerola is the undisputed queen of vitamin C

Forget lemons and rosehips! Acerola is the undisputed queen of vitamin C

Acerola, also known as the Barbados (West Indian) cherry, is an exotic fruit shrub that occasionally grows to the size of a tree (2–5 metres). This evergreen species, native to the tropical regions of South and Central America, is known not only for its attractive appearance but, above all, for its unique properties and high vitamin content. The acerola fruit is a small drupe weighing up to 15 g, which resembles a cherry in shape but has a much more sour taste. It ripens extremely quickly – in just 23 days – and is gaining attention thanks to its tart flavour, which gradually becomes sweeter. Interestingly, the rule ‘the riper, the better’ does not apply to acerola, as it is the less ripe fruits that contain the highest levels of nutrients. Acerola can be found under the Latin names Malpighia glabra, emarginata and punicifolia. It contains an extremely high amount of vitamin C, which even exceeds that found in rose hips.

Leave your stress behind. The power of nature works better than chemicals Harmony

Leave your stress behind. The power of nature works better than chemicals

Everyone really got on your nerves; the journey home was like something out of the apocalypse, and at home, instead of peace and quiet, there was more tension and stress. This is what some of our days are like. There are many solutions, but only a few are the right ones in the long run. Because alcohol really does help to calm your nerves and see things from a completely different perspective – though sometimes from a diabolical one, not a positive one. Soft drugs and medication can help you switch off, but they don’t address the root of your problem.

How to treat a cold or the flu? Immunity and Vitality

How to treat a cold or the flu?

We probably all have a good supply of medicines at home in case we catch a cold, or even the flu. It’s the same every single year. The temperature drops, the weather turns damp and chilly, and the viral infections start to spread. But we’re prepared! Celaskon, various cough syrups, paracetamol… A box (or even a large box) of all sorts of medicines will sort it out, won’t it? And if not, then whilst we’re coughing, grumbling and lying in bed, we solemnly promise ourselves that we’ll finally start hardening ourselves to the cold. As soon as the illness has passed...

Vitamin P – the vitality booster Beauty and Skin

Vitamin P – the vitality booster

You know how it is – the alarm goes off, you open your eyes, but you stay in bed. Even after seven hours’ sleep, you don’t feel energised. In the mirror, you see dark circles under your eyes; your skin is dry and tired, and you’re developing bruises and tiny broken capillaries. Is your immune system not working as it should, and does every virus seem to find you? If you’re thinking, ‘It’s just stress; it’s normal to feel like this’, well… no, you don’t have to feel like this… You’re missing something, and it might not be magnesium or another coffee. It’s a vitamin that isn’t listed on yoghurt pots, nor has it taken social media by storm just yet. And yet your body craves it every day: it’s vitamin P, better known as bioflavonoids – natural plant compounds that:

Vitamin B7 brings out your radiant beauty: A lifesaver for your skin, hair and nails Beauty and Skin

Vitamin B7 brings out your radiant beauty: A lifesaver for your skin, hair and nails

It is no coincidence that the name ‘biotin’ (vitamin B7) derives from the Greek ‘bios’ (βίος), which means ‘life’. Because it is precisely life, vitality and a healthy glow that this vitamin can breathe into your skin, hair and nails. If you give it a chance, they will truly come to life… quite literally. Dull will become radiant, brittle will become strong, and tired will be full of vitality (every woman’s dream). And this is by no means a placebo effect, but a reality backed by science. Studies confirm that biotin is important for keratin metabolism and enzyme activity, and that it influences blood glucose levels. It is a vitamin that provides the body with exactly what it needs from within to make a visible difference on the outside.

Vitamin B5

Another vitamin in the B-complex group is vitamin B5 – pantothenic acid. It is both an acid and a vitamin. It plays an important role in metabolism (the conversion of substances) during the formation of coenzyme A. It is essential for the production of haemoglobin – the blood pigment that transports oxygen and CO₂ from the lungs to the organs and back.

Burnout syndrome or just a tired brain? How stress depletes our reserves of the ‘happiness hormone’

Do you wake up feeling weighed down even before you’ve opened your laptop? Morning anxiety, irritability at routine emails and a loss of motivation for projects you used to enjoy... Does this sound familiar? Many successful people, managers and entrepreneurs automatically attribute these feelings to impending burnout. However, they often fail to realise that their nervous system has simply been running ‘on credit’ for a long time, and that the problem may have a clear biochemical basis. It isn’t always just a psychological issue. Often, it’s simply a lack of fuel for your brain.

Wild Yam: From the Pharmaceutical Revolution to Modern Dietary Supplements Harmony

Wild Yam: From the Pharmaceutical Revolution to Modern Dietary Supplements

When we talk about plants that have shaped modern medicine, few have left such a significant mark as the wild yam (Dioscorea villosa). This climbing plant with a woody root did not become famous for its taste, but for its unique chemical profile. Its true value lies in the molecules that literally ushered in the era of modern endocrinology and synthetic hormones.

B-complex … a healthy energy drink Energy

B-complex … a healthy energy drink

B vitamins are among the most important nutrients for our bodies – literally an ‘energy drink’ – and their complex effects influence energy levels, immunity and the nervous system, as well as the quality of our skin, hair and nails. The B-complex is the term used for the group of B vitamins, which are water-soluble and cannot be stored in the body (with the exception of B12), so it is essential to replenish them regularly, as a deficiency leads to a wide range of problems, whilst any excess is simply excreted from the body. Dr Lucullus’s Vitamin B-complex is unique in that it consists of eleven vitamins, working tirelessly for your health and ready to win even the toughest battle.
