Oh, that memory! How to support it with dietary supplements

In today’s fast-paced world, our memory and concentration are really put to the test. We often think that the occasional lapse in memory is simply a natural part of ageing, stress or overwork. The truth, however, is that our brain is an organ that consumes a huge amount of energy and is extremely sensitive to the nutrients we provide it with. It functions as an extremely complex system, and if it lacks essential building blocks and high-quality nutrients, its performance begins to decline and we find ourselves unable to remember where we’ve put our keys.

The good news is that we can significantly boost our cognitive abilities through proper nutrition. If you want to keep a sharp mind, quick reactions and an excellent memory at any age, you should focus on getting enough of these key vitamins and nutrients.

1. B vitamins (particularly B6, B9 and B12)

These vitamins are absolutely essential for memory. They help to reduce homocysteine levels in the blood. Homocysteine is an amino acid, and high levels of it are directly linked to a decline in cognitive function and memory.

Vitamin B12 (cobalamin): It is essential for the health of nerve fibres. A deficiency (which is common among older people or vegans) can cause problems with concentration and memory.

Vitamin B9 (folic acid): Important for the formation of new cells and the proper functioning of the nervous system.

2. Vitamin E

It is a powerful antioxidant that protects brain cells (neurons) from oxidative stress and damage caused by free radicals. Research suggests that sufficient levels of vitamin E may help slow down brain ageing and protect memory function.

3. Vitamin D

The brain has a large number of receptors specifically for vitamin D, which means that this vitamin plays an active role in its functioning. It supports the growth of nerve cells, and a long-term deficiency is often linked to memory impairment and an increased risk of dementia.

4. Vitamin C

As well as being another important antioxidant, vitamin C plays a role in the synthesis of dopamine and serotonin. These are key neurotransmitters that influence our ability to learn and remember new information.

An important ‘non-vitamin’ bonus: Omega-3

Although they are not vitamins, they cannot be overlooked when discussing memory. The brain is made up of almost sixty per cent fat, a large proportion of which is DHA (a type of omega-3 fatty acid). It is literally the building block of brain cells. If you want to give your memory a real boost, regularly eating oily fish (or taking a high-quality fish oil or algae supplement) is just as important as vitamins.

Although a varied and balanced diet is the ideal foundation, in today’s fast-paced world it is not always easy to get all the key nutrients from the food on your plate alone. Higher stress levels, specific dietary habits, advancing age or simply a lack of time often mean that turning to dietary supplements is the most effective and sensible way to provide real support for your memory. If you decide to go down this route, focus on high-quality natural supplements that contain no GMOs or allergens. Dr. LUCULLUS dietary supplements will easily become part of your daily routine and deliver the results you expect for a sharp mind.

So if you need more energy, faster recovery, firmer muscles and a stronger immune system… you need the Amino“max” supplement, which is chosen not only by professional athletes but also by active people who want to get the most out of themselves. Aminomax contains 17 specially selected amino acids in the ideal ratio (9 essential and 8 non-essential), which together act as ‘specialists’: some build new muscle, others combat fatigue, whilst others boost the immune system or kick-start fat burning. But for us, it’s the result that matters, and this manifests as:

Not all magnesium is the same Health

Not all magnesium is the same

Magnesium is a miracle mineral. It improves sleep, relaxes muscles, reduces stress and helps produce energy. The problem arises when you realise that it comes in several forms – citrate, oxide, malate and bisglycinate. Which one should you choose? If you pick the wrong one, not only will it not help you, but it may cause unpleasant diarrhoea or, conversely, keep you awake at night.

A superfood we often overlook. Have you heard of aronia?

Exhaustion and chronic fatigue have been frequently discussed topics in recent months. Some blame it on stress at work, others on an unhealthy lifestyle and poor-quality food, and others on vaccination... Whatever the truth may be, it is time to take matters into our own hands and deal with the situation. A weakened body is highly susceptible to various illnesses and health issues. That is why we need to give it a boost of optimism and, above all, vital energy.

Muscles don’t grow during a workout, but afterwards. How can you kick-start immediate recovery?

Does this sound familiar? You put in a tough workout, give it your all at the gym or on the running track, and look forward to seeing progress. Instead, though, the next day brings extreme tiredness, muscle soreness so bad you can’t even walk down the stairs, and the feeling that your body simply can’t keep up with the recovery.

Greater nasturtium: A common fence plant or nature’s most powerful antibiotic?

You may know it as an undemanding annual with bright yellow, orange and red flowers, which sprawls profusely along fences and in gardens. However, the greater nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus) is much more than just a feast for the eyes. In herbalism and natural medicine, this plant, native to South America, is regarded as one of the most effective natural remedies.

Dandelion (Latin: Taraxum officinale, also known as milkweed, creamweed, Mayflower) is a weed that is familiar to everyone and found everywhere (especially if nothing else grows overnight on a perfect green lawn, it will even grow in a crack in the asphalt). First and foremost, it is a medicinal plant in the herb long its. The milk ducts contain a white sap that hardens in the air and leaves coloured stains on your hands. Dandelion seeds can travel a kilometre. It is one of the longest flowering plants, and the whole plant is edible, but with a rather unpleasant bitter taste.

K2 as a GPS

K2 as a GPS

“Calcium on its own isn’t enough; it can even be harmful to your health.” What sort of conspiracy theory is this, you might think... After all, we need calcium for our bones, our teeth… but if we were to read the specialist literature, we’d find out… yes, calcium is important, but only if it knows where it’s supposed to be. Because when it wanders around the body unchecked, it can ‘park’ itself in the arteries, kidneys or joints. Calcium in the arteries contributes to their hardening (calcification), thereby increasing the risk of a heart attack, stroke or high blood pressure. This is where vitamin K2 comes to the rescue. It activates a protein called Matrix GLA protein, which ‘cleans’ the blood vessels by preventing calcium from being deposited in their walls. At the same time, it activates osteocalcin, which ensures that calcium goes where it is needed. This is precisely why vitamin K2 is essential – it acts as a GPS for calcium. With its special ability to regulate calcium transport – and not just any old way – it literally acts as a navigator for calcium, ensuring it doesn’t end up where it doesn’t belong (in the arteries), but is directed to where it’s needed: in the bones and teeth. The most effective form of vitamin K2 is MK-7 (menaquinone); although it sounds like a supporting character, it is a systems operator (the sort who doesn’t take the stage at meetings, but without whom the whole company would collapse).  Scientists aren’t exactly the sort to follow trends; they don’t always agree, but in the case of vitamin K2, also known as MK-7, they report that this vitamin has many benefits:

Another vitamin in the B-complex group is vitamin B5 – pantothenic acid. It is both an acid and a vitamin. It plays an important role in metabolism (the conversion of substances) during the formation of coenzyme A. It is essential for the production of haemoglobin – the blood pigment that transports oxygen and CO₂ from the lungs to the organs and back.
