Do you suffer from allergies, histamine reactions or fatigue? Discover the healing power of Moringa

The Tree of Life. That is the name given to the Moringa oleifera, a tree native to the foothills of the Himalayas. Today, it can be found throughout India and has even spread to Arabia, Africa and Madagascar. It can grow up to 12 metres tall and have a trunk 30 cm thick. It can grow at a rate of 3 metres a year! As almost every part of it can be used (leaves, fruit, trunk), it is often pruned to take the shape of a low-growing shrub.

Moringa oleifera contains the three most potent antihistamines: polyphenols, flavonoids and antioxidants, combined with higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids. It has anti-inflammatory and healing properties, and provides the body with a range of substances that counteract the release of histamine. Furthermore, it is a source of many vitamins (A, E, K, B group) and minerals (potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, zinc, manganese, etc.).

Locals often eat the leaves straight away, adding them to salads or using them to make soups and sauces. They are a source of vitamins, minerals and protein. In some places, the fruits are eaten whilst still green; when ripe, they are roasted and taste like nuts. When ripe, they contain up to 40 per cent oil. This oil is used in cooking, the cosmetics industry and even in watchmaking for the delicate lubrication of components.

Powder made from the dried fruits can clarify murky water! Water-soluble proteins form flocs of sediment, which sink to the bottom, leaving the water clear. This is how people in the Nile River region usually treat water before boiling it. Moringa flowers are eaten cooked, just like the leaves. The roots of this plant have a pungent taste and are used as a substitute for horseradish. However, be careful not to eat too much – they contain the alkaloid spirochin.

However, moringa is also well known in folk medicine. Ayurveda uses it to treat more than 300 physical ailments. The roots of this plant are used to treat digestive disorders, to combat intestinal parasites, and as a painkiller. The seeds have anti-inflammatory properties and help reduce fever. They are also used to treat vitamin C deficiency – they were used to help sailors combat scurvy.

Thanks to all these properties, it has not escaped the attention of modern medicine. Through analysis, scientists have discovered that Moringa oleifera contains more than 40 natural antioxidants. Manganese, which has a positive effect on the joints and the musculoskeletal system. 18 essential amino acids, which are important for protein synthesis. The plant hormone zeatin, known as the ‘hormone of youth’. This transports beneficial substances to the necessary parts of the body.

Moringa is recommended for diabetes, weight loss, cardiovascular problems, neurodegenerative diseases and a weak immune system. It is very effective for feelings of low energy. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, it is suitable for aiding the body’s recovery and alleviating joint problems.

Moringa oleifera is an excellent choice for vegetarians, but especially for vegans! This is because it contains substances of which people who do not consume animal products tend to have lower levels. It is truly a versatile plant that is rightly called the ‘tree of life’.

It’s called beta-carotene, a natural wonder found in smoothies and salads alike. Beta-carotene is a pigment that gives vegetables such as carrots, pumpkins and sweet potatoes their characteristic orange (but also yellow or red) colour. It is the word ‘carota’ (the Latin name for carrot) that formed the basis of its name. And in fact, carrots are one of the vegetables with the highest beta-carotene content.

Greater nasturtium – a beauty with the power of antibiotics

Monk’s cress is an older name for nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus), whose medicinal properties were already known in the 16th century. The appearance of the flowers and the name are a reference to the traditional robes of monks. It originally grew in the Andes, where indigenous tribes used it for healing, to boost strength and to aid recovery. Later, people from across the region would visit herbalists to seek out its medicinal heritage: decoctions, ointments and teas, as they understood the secrets of nature better than anyone else. In our grandmother’s herbarium, we found a description of the capuchin flower: a flowering panacea that does no harm, only helps. Today, we too can benefit from this traditional wisdom, and its benefits are scientifically proven. If you pluck a leaf from the nasturtium, the plant immediately activates a rapid regeneration mechanism and begins to ‘heal its wounds’ and continue growing. Thanks to its wide range of bioactive compounds and nutritional benefits, it is a valuable component of natural medicine and disease prevention. Modern science has discovered a wealth of beneficial substances in its leaves, flowers and seeds.

Not all magnesium is the same

Not all magnesium is the same

Magnesium is a miracle mineral. It improves sleep, relaxes muscles, reduces stress and helps produce energy. The problem arises when you realise that it comes in several forms – citrate, oxide, malate and bisglycinate. Which one should you choose? If you pick the wrong one, not only will it not help you, but it may cause unpleasant diarrhoea or, conversely, keep you awake at night.

Discover the energy of the mountains in every sip

When we need to recharge our batteries and long for peace, it’s time to slow down. Imagine the silence of a mountain morning, when the mist rises above the valley, the sun touches the mountain slopes, and the air is fresh and scented with wild herbs. And although these herbs grow in the purest areas and in mineral-rich soil, they must also adapt to the harsh conditions of the mountains. As a result, they are rich in antioxidants, essential oils, flavonoids and phenolic compounds, which help protect cells from oxidative stress.

Vitamin C - is it just a placebo?

Vitamin C - is it just a placebo?

Vitamin C is probably the best known and most widely used vitamin. Since childhood, our mothers have been giving us effervescent Celaskon in winter to make us resistant to colds and flu. And although recent research casts doubt on all this, i.e. there is no study that directly confirms that vitamin C protects against flu and colds, there are facts that cannot be disputed.

Omega 3, precious message of the sea

Omega 3, precious message of the sea

Do you long to wake up with ease in the morning, look fresher, not feel joint pain, have more energy, be able to focus, and feel better in your body? We could find the solution from fishermen who got up earlier than the sun each morning, went out to the sea, and greeted the new day with a smile. These were men who never knew the doctor, had sharp minds even in old age, their hands still firmly held the fishing nets and they lived functional longevity, often working into their 90s. The fishermen's treasure was exactly fish oil, which works similarly to a lubricant for our body: it helps the heart pump blood, keeps the mind fresh, and joints flexible, without it, the joints would be like an old creaking ship. The message that the sea gives us what we need was conveyed to future generations because some gifts of health are too precious to keep to oneself.
