B-complex … a healthy energy drink

B vitamins are among the most important nutrients for our bodies – literally an ‘energy drink’ – and their complex effects influence energy levels, immunity and the nervous system, as well as the quality of our skin, hair and nails. The B-complex is the term used for the group of B vitamins, which are water-soluble and cannot be stored in the body (with the exception of B12), so it is essential to replenish them regularly, as a deficiency leads to a wide range of problems, whilst any excess is simply excreted from the body. Dr Lucullus’s Vitamin B-complex is unique in that it consists of eleven vitamins, working tirelessly for your health and ready to win even the toughest battle.

B1 (thiamine) is vital for carbohydrate metabolism and the proper functioning of the nervous system; it is also known as the ‘anti-stress vitamin’. In other words, it ‘gets you back on your feet’ and ensures that your body functions at its best.

B2 (riboflavin) keeps the skin in top condition, the eyes sharp and reactions sufficiently quick; it supports oral health and, as a result, helps prevent mouth ulcers, cold sores and inflammation.

B3 (niacin) helps regulate cholesterol levels and maintain healthy blood circulation. It plays a key role in the metabolism of fats, sugars and proteins. With it at the helm, you can count on healthy skin and a healthy nervous system.

B5 (pantothenic acid) is a vitamin required for the production of hormones and blood cells. Like the previous vitamins, it contributes to metabolism, resulting in the body functioning optimally.

B6 (pyridoxine) promotes mental well-being and combats depression. It is also essential for the production of serotonin and melatonin, hormones vital for relaxation and healthy sleep. Like its ‘counterparts’, it supports optimal nerve function and the production of red blood cells.

B7 (biotin), known as the ‘beauty vitamin’, promotes hair growth and strong nails, and can also ensure perfectly hydrated skin.

B9 (folic acid) is essential for the formation of DNA and RNA; it forms the building blocks of our existence, which is the main reason why it is recommended for women both before and during pregnancy.

B10 (PABA) makes a significant contribution to healthy skin and hair; it is an organic crystalline compound also known as vitamin Bx, although it is not actually a vitamin, yet it is an important component of the B-complex.

B12 (cobalamin) plays a vital role in the formation of blood cells and proper brain function; it improves memory, learning and concentration; however, it is the only vitamin that is stored in the liver for several years, which means that a deficiency may not become apparent immediately, but only after a longer period of time.

Choline is a vitamin-like compound that plays a role in various physiological processes, including the formation of cell walls. Inositol (B8) is a structural component of cell membranes and is important for signalling and neurotransmitter function. The B vitamins – specifically B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12 – support metabolism, leading to an increased energy supply. Furthermore, B5 and B6 help the body cope with stress by strengthening the adrenal glands and regulating hormone production.

Vitamins B6, B9 and B12 have a beneficial effect on the nervous system and proper brain function, and may therefore help to promote mental balance and reduce the symptoms of depression, anxiety and dementia. Biotin, riboflavin and niacin play a crucial role in maintaining healthy and beautiful skin. Vitamins B2, B3 and B7 are associated with skin regeneration and help with problems such as acne, eczema or dry skin. The production of red and white blood cells is also essential for the proper functioning of the immune system, and vitamins B6 and B12 play a vital role in this. Adequate levels of these vitamins strengthen the immune system and help combat fatigue, weakness and a pale complexion.

Vitamins B9 and B12 play a key role in the formation of blood cells and the oxygenation of the blood, thereby helping to prevent and treat anaemia. The B-complex is also an invaluable aid in detoxification. The liver continuously removes toxins from the body, and vitamins B5 and B6 significantly assist it in this process. In addition, B vitamins are involved in the breakdown and metabolism of nutrients, thereby supporting their proper digestion and absorption. A common question regarding the B-complex is whether it causes weight gain. No direct link has been scientifically proven. We can obtain B vitamins naturally from fish, meat, liver and mushrooms. A long-term deficiency of these vitamins can lead to diseases such as pellagra, beriberi or anaemia.

Taking Dr Lucullus’s B-complex regularly will help you feel better and more energetic. It has a wide range of benefits, making it a real driving force for your health.

It improves the quality of hair, nails and skin. It boosts energy levels and improves concentration. It supports the nervous system and strengthens the immune system. It promotes healthy digestion and detoxification. It protects heart health.

The First of Vitamins - B1

The First of Vitamins - B1

Maybe it's burnout ... that's the current description of the state when we feel different. When the coffee we loved no longer works and in the afternoon we are overwhelmed by unbearable fatigue, when in the evening we have no strength for anything, neither for sports nor for friends. And certainly not for another day at work. A nutritionist would describe this state with further findings of our diet with the words - „ You have a lack of thiamine (B1), which is essential for the proper functioning of the nervous system and the conversion of food into energy. Your diet is full of processed carbohydrates, but almost without B1. And when the body doesn't have enough thiamine, you can feel fatigue, forgetfulness, irritability, and even anxiety. And caffeine? It depletes thiamine in the body even more!“ We certainly wouldn't think that this state could be caused by a “triviality”. After all, many of us don't register thiamine, I admit it was also my case. This first of the discovered vitamins in 1912 was named by the Polish biochemist Funk with the term vita (necessary for life), amine (substances that contain nitrogen). Since then, it has gained more names, like aneurin, and for 25 years we have called it thiamine. It is essential, meaning it cannot be synthesized and must come from the diet. It sounds almost frightening that without it we wouldn't survive longer than a few days, at most weeks. This is because the body cannot store it for long and it is necessary to ensure its intake regularly, as it is irreplaceable for the proper functioning of the organism. On the contrary, its abundance helps improve concentration and memory.

Better concentration and a better memory? Try vitamin B12!

Vitamin B12 is the most complex vitamin (from a chemical point of view); it contains cobalt, which is essential for its activity. Also known as cyanocobalamin, it plays a part in the proper functioning of the body, and our bodies require it every day. Although we only need it in small amounts, its importance for red blood cell production and metabolism is enormous. Various studies suggest that it has a beneficial effect on our mood and memory, and supports brain function. Vitamin B12 is necessary for maintaining the proper functioning of the nervous system and the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates and fats. Unlike other vitamins, B12 is synthesised in nature only by bacteria found in the digestive systems of animals. We therefore obtain it mainly from animal products, such as meat and dairy products. Its uniqueness also lies in its ability to be stored in the liver for many years, but a deficiency poses a risk not only to vegans and older people. A B12 deficiency does not manifest itself immediately (it can take up to a year). Fatigue is the first sign of a deficiency in this vitamin. Chronic fatigue, memory problems, tingling in the limbs or depression can be subtle warning signs. As vitamin B12 is essential for the production of myelin, the protective sheath around nerve fibres, a deficiency can lead to neurological problems such as numbness and balance issues. If this deficiency is left untreated, it can lead to serious neurological disorders and anaemia; the deficiency also manifests itself through various haematological and psychiatric symptoms (including confusion and disorientation, atrophy, mood and behavioural changes, psychosis and cognitive problems, loss of concentration, insomnia and incontinence). In the past, pernicious anaemia was incurable. In 1926, two doctors discovered that eating raw liver could alleviate these symptoms – fatigue, memory loss and nerve damage. Two decades later, they succeeded in isolating the substance responsible for this effect, which turned out to be vitamin B12.

Cordyceps sinensis – this is our zombie predator. In China, they call it "winter insect, summer herb". Imagine a fungus that shoots out its spores (seeds) during reproduction in summer, which then attach themselves to the body of an insect. It gradually overgrows the insect's body and parasitises it, literally eating it from the inside, while the insect continues to live, changing its external appearance but continuing to hunt for food until it burrows underground, where it dies and mummifies. The fungus can survive in it for a long time. The fungus literally takes over the host's body, growing out of it in the summer and forming slender "sticks" 5-20 cm high. This inspired the Last of Us video game series, where the Cordyceps fungus turns humans into zombies. In real life, this video game takes place in the real life of insects.
