How can you get a good night’s sleep?

Drinking decoctions made from various herbs and fruits has been part of human life ever since the discovery of fire. It was often the only way for people to extract beneficial substances from plants for their bodies, particularly during long winters. Gradually, people learnt which herb was beneficial for which situation or illness, and those who mastered this art were the most respected members of the community.

It is interesting to note that in the Middle Ages they were often labelled as charlatans because their recommendations did not align with the ‘latest scientific findings’. Indeed, this remains the case to this day. In defence of medical science, it must be noted that, both then and now, there is a huge group of people who are able to ‘scientifically’ explain and ‘justify’ the almost miraculous effects of herbs on the body.

However, it is equally true that modern science is far from understanding, or being able to explain empirically, why treatment with herbal extracts actually works. This is despite the fact that we are now able to examine plants or parts of them right down to the atomic level. Simply put, the human body and its various interactions with different substances vary so much from one individual to another that we will have to wait a while longer for precise and clear facts...

What we can safely do today, however, is make ourselves a healing or soothing drink from tried-and-tested, readily available herbs. Fortunately, these days we don’t have to travel far to visit an old herbalist, hoping she’s a genuine healer and not a quack. Today we have the internet, AI chatbots, high-quality literature and reliable shops and online retailers.

So, if you’ve read this far, it’s high time to calm your mind, pour yourself a cup of herbal tea and savour this moment with your feet up on the table. Do you want to know why you’re starting to feel calm, relaxed and at ease? Why are you thinking about treating yourself to an early night tonight and putting your mobile down on the table an hour earlier?

It is the composition of this tea blend. Lemon balm, with its characteristic lemony scent, can help relieve stress, insomnia and aid digestion. Its leaves have been added to drinks for centuries. Common marjoram (also known as oregano) contains flavonoids, tannins, and vitamins C and K. It has a calming effect, helps relieve bloating, stimulates the production of gastric juices and aids digestion.

Another ingredient is the well-known peppermint, with its characteristic aroma and flavour. It has antiseptic properties, relieves cramps and helps combat vomiting and nausea. St. John’s wort is very effective for treating neuroses; it relieves mental tension, anxiety and depressive states. It is highly effective against insomnia. Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) reduces fevers and heatstroke, relieves cramps, is excellent for colds and promotes wound healing. It is excellent for a peaceful night’s sleep and, in particular, for helping you fall asleep. The final ‘secret’ ingredient is narrow-leaved lavender. Excellent for migraines, insomnia and nervous exhaustion.

This blend of exceptional (yet so common) herbs is contained in a tea that can make your evening pleasant and relaxing, and prepare you for a good, peaceful night’s sleep. And we all know that a good night’s sleep is the foundation of good health. So then: off to bed quickly – the moon’s already out… :-)

Why should chamomile be a staple in every household?

It is unassuming, often growing along country lanes, in meadows or in gardens, yet it harbours immense power. Chamomile, or ‘kamilka’ as it’s commonly known, is one of the best-known and most widely used medicinal herbs in the world. You may remember it from your childhood, when your grandmother used to make you tea from it for a tummy ache, but this little plant can do much more than that.

How can you beat insomnia? Discover the power of the amino acid L-tryptophan and B vitamins

Many of us know that feeling when we wake up in the night, start thinking about something completely trivial – and suddenly can’t get back to sleep. No matter what we do – even if we count a whole flock of sheep – it takes at least an hour before we drift off again. Perhaps even worse is not being able to fall asleep at all! We toss and turn, trying to banish even the most innocent thought, but sleep just won’t come. Of course, there are sleeping tablets – but let’s face it – this has nothing to do with a healthy lifestyle. And anyone who claims that alcohol helps is in a similar boat. There’s even a risk of developing a dangerous addiction here!

There are days when even women need to find a balance ...

This natural supplement contains a lesser-known plant called wild yam (Discorea villosa) from the Dioscoreaceae family. Let's get to know it ☺ There are more than 600 species of yam plants, the most prominent being wild yam (Dioscorea villosa). This hardy liana (vine) of equatorial regions has heart-shaped leaves. The leaves and roots contain diosgenin (the primary component), and it is the root that is used in medicine and in our supplements as a concentrated extract (highest yield), with a structure similar to cholesterol. This substance was used to produce the first contraceptive bases.

Feminine balance important for every woman

Feminine balance important for every woman

We can probably agree that the female body and its hormonal balance is more complicated than the male body. A woman's monthly female cycle, among other things, has a significant impact on her. It is therefore much more important to monitor all the necessary substances and hormones if a woman wants to live a balanced, happy life, both health-wise and mentally.

Burnout syndrome or just a tired brain? How stress depletes our reserves of the ‘happiness hormone’

Do you wake up feeling weighed down even before you’ve opened your laptop? Morning anxiety, irritability at routine emails and a loss of motivation for projects you used to enjoy... Does this sound familiar? Many successful people, managers and entrepreneurs automatically attribute these feelings to impending burnout. However, they often fail to realise that their nervous system has simply been running ‘on credit’ for a long time, and that the problem may have a clear biochemical basis. It isn’t always just a psychological issue. Often, it’s simply a lack of fuel for your brain.

4 benefits of choline for liver health

The liver in the human body works tirelessly 24 hours a day, cleansing the blood of toxins, metabolising medicines and processing fats from food. However, for this complex mechanism to function flawlessly, it needs the right building blocks. One of the absolutely most important of these is choline. Although the body can produce small amounts of it itself, without sufficient intake from the diet we run the risk of fatty liver and inflammation. Let’s take a look at exactly how choline protects the liver and why it should be a part of your daily routine.

Leave your stress behind. The power of nature works better than chemicals

Leave your stress behind. The power of nature works better than chemicals

Everyone really got on your nerves; the journey home was like something out of the apocalypse, and at home, instead of peace and quiet, there was more tension and stress. This is what some of our days are like. There are many solutions, but only a few are the right ones in the long run. Because alcohol really does help to calm your nerves and see things from a completely different perspective – though sometimes from a diabolical one, not a positive one. Soft drugs and medication can help you switch off, but they don’t address the root of your problem.

Choline and Inositol

Choline and Inositol

Choline and Inositol - two words you probably haven't heard before. In terms of supplements, however, these are important B-group nutritional supplements, which are actually vitamins. These substances are very similar to vitamins and support liver function and lipid metabolism, i.e. fat metabolism. Choline is a water-soluble vitamin. It is found in lecithin, which is common in many plant and animal tissues. Choline is a precursor to the neurotransmitter (i.e. transmitter) acetylcholine, which is involved in many memory and muscle functions.
