How can you beat insomnia? Discover the power of the amino acid L-tryptophan and B vitamins

Many of us know that feeling when we wake up in the night, start thinking about something completely trivial – and suddenly can’t get back to sleep. No matter what we do – even if we count a whole flock of sheep – it takes at least an hour before we drift off again. Perhaps even worse is not being able to fall asleep at all! We toss and turn, trying to banish even the most innocent thought, but sleep just won’t come. Of course, there are sleeping tablets – but let’s face it – this has nothing to do with a healthy lifestyle. And anyone who claims that alcohol helps is in a similar boat. There’s even a risk of developing a dangerous addiction here!

Fortunately, there is research that has long focused on the topic of quality sleep, and this has yielded insights into two hormones: serotonin (the hormone of happiness and good mood) and melatonin (the hormone of sleep and a regular circadian rhythm). So, scientists have sought to ensure sufficient levels of these hormones in the body. They discovered that there is an essential amino acid: tryptophan. The body cannot produce this itself; it must be obtained through diet or in the form of dietary supplements.

Tryptophan is found naturally in protein-rich foods: pork and beef, fish, eggs, milk, yoghurt, chocolate and nuts. In the body, tryptophan acts as a precursor to neurotransmitters or vitamin B3. If there is sufficient vitamin B6 in the body, tryptophan can be converted into the neurotransmitter serotonin, also known as the ‘happiness hormone’. This influences feelings of happiness and good mood, and helps to relieve stress, stage fright and emotional tension.

At night, the amino acid L-tryptophan can be converted into the sleep hormone melatonin. If there is sufficient vitamin B3 in the body, tryptophan is not converted into vitamin B3, but into the hormones serotonin and melatonin. And that is the desired end result: calmness and a peaceful night’s sleep.

Vitamin B3 plays a significant role in converting food into energy. A deficiency in it can therefore manifest as increased tiredness. It contributes to mental health – helping to alleviate mood swings and depression. It helps with allergies by reducing histamine release. It is an antioxidant, lowers cholesterol levels and helps manage diabetes. In addition to these important functions, it protects and improves skin health.

The most common symptoms of vitamin B3 deficiency are: memory problems, headaches and dizziness, fatigue, insomnia and nervousness, skin problems and inflammation, and inflammation of the mucous membranes.

If a vitamin B6 deficiency is short-term, it leads to fatigue, irritability and a low mood – as a result of disruption to neurotransmitters. This is accompanied by skin problems and chapped lips. A long-term deficiency leads to serious problems: a weakened immune system, impaired learning ability and memory loss.

That is why this dietary supplement containing the amino acid L-tryptophan is also enriched with both vitamins B3 and B6. It is important to choose a retailer of vitamins and dietary supplements whom you trust and who specialises exclusively in this field, rather than one that also sells thousands of other types of goods.

Burnout syndrome or just a tired brain? How stress depletes our reserves of the ‘happiness hormone’

Do you wake up feeling weighed down even before you’ve opened your laptop? Morning anxiety, irritability at routine emails and a loss of motivation for projects you used to enjoy... Does this sound familiar? Many successful people, managers and entrepreneurs automatically attribute these feelings to impending burnout. However, they often fail to realise that their nervous system has simply been running ‘on credit’ for a long time, and that the problem may have a clear biochemical basis. It isn’t always just a psychological issue. Often, it’s simply a lack of fuel for your brain.

Wild Yam: From the Pharmaceutical Revolution to Modern Dietary Supplements

When we talk about plants that have shaped modern medicine, few have left such a significant mark as the wild yam (Dioscorea villosa). This climbing plant with a woody root did not become famous for its taste, but for its unique chemical profile. Its true value lies in the molecules that literally ushered in the era of modern endocrinology and synthetic hormones.

Drinking decoctions made from various herbs and fruits has been part of human life ever since the discovery of fire. It was often the only way for people to extract beneficial substances from plants for their bodies, particularly during long winters. Gradually, people learnt which herb was beneficial for which situation or illness, and those who mastered this art were the most respected members of the community.

Choline and Inositol

Choline and Inositol

Choline and Inositol - two words you probably haven't heard before. In terms of supplements, however, these are important B-group nutritional supplements, which are actually vitamins. These substances are very similar to vitamins and support liver function and lipid metabolism, i.e. fat metabolism. Choline is a water-soluble vitamin. It is found in lecithin, which is common in many plant and animal tissues. Choline is a precursor to the neurotransmitter (i.e. transmitter) acetylcholine, which is involved in many memory and muscle functions.

Leave your stress behind. The power of nature works better than chemicals

Everyone really got on your nerves; the journey home was like something out of the apocalypse, and at home, instead of peace and quiet, there was more tension and stress. This is what some of our days are like. There are many solutions, but only a few are the right ones in the long run. Because alcohol really does help to calm your nerves and see things from a completely different perspective – though sometimes from a diabolical one, not a positive one. Soft drugs and medication can help you switch off, but they don’t address the root of your problem.

Feminine balance important for every woman

Feminine balance important for every woman

We can probably agree that the female body and its hormonal balance is more complicated than the male body. A woman's monthly female cycle, among other things, has a significant impact on her. It is therefore much more important to monitor all the necessary substances and hormones if a woman wants to live a balanced, happy life, both health-wise and mentally.

This natural supplement contains a lesser-known plant called wild yam (Discorea villosa) from the Dioscoreaceae family. Let's get to know it ☺ There are more than 600 species of yam plants, the most prominent being wild yam (Dioscorea villosa). This hardy liana (vine) of equatorial regions has heart-shaped leaves. The leaves and roots contain diosgenin (the primary component), and it is the root that is used in medicine and in our supplements as a concentrated extract (highest yield), with a structure similar to cholesterol. This substance was used to produce the first contraceptive bases.
