For protection and regeneration, choose vitamin E

Imagine that your cells are like your favourite trainers – new, clean, comfortable and flexible. But if you wear them every day to the gym, in the woods or in the mud – and, above all, without cleaning them – they’ll quickly lose their sparkle, and you won’t feel comfortable in them, let alone be able to perform at your best. It’s exactly the same with your body. Stress, UV radiation and smog all take their toll on your cells. And when their protective barrier is compromised, it starts with symptoms you’ll notice in dry skin, slower healing of blisters from trainers or cuts, or the fact that after the weekend you don’t look as fresh as a juicy piece of fruit.  But you’re not on your own – there are nutrients that act as ‘cleaners’, one of which is vitamin E (the one that doesn’t show off, but gets the job done). It helps cells resist damage, protects the heart, boosts immunity and slows down the process we call ‘maturation’ (I mean ageing). These days, we can’t switch off the world around us, but we can strengthen what’s inside us. And vitamin E is the boost your body will appreciate.

What exactly is D-alpha-tocopheryl acetate? It is a natural form of vitamin E (the most effective one) which is used in dietary supplements due to its stability and efficacy. According to the WHO and EFSA, most people do not achieve the optimal daily intake of vitamin E, thereby increasing their risk of chronic diseases. The body cannot produce vitamin E itself; we must obtain it from our diet. The body can then activate it and use it as an antioxidant – a substance that protects cells from damage caused by free radicals. Unlike synthetic forms of vitamin E, D-alpha-tocopheryl acetate has higher bioavailability, which means it is better absorbed and acts more effectively where the body needs it.

What does the science say? Research shows that vitamin E neutralises free radicals, which contribute to ageing, inflammation and chronic diseases. A meta-analysis has shown that vitamin E reduces markers of inflammation (CRP), which is crucial in the context of chronic diseases. According to a study published in the journal *Free Radical Biology and Medicine*, vitamin E stabilises cell membranes and prevents the oxidation of lipids in the body.

Cardiovascular diseases are one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Studies suggest that vitamin E may reduce the oxidation of LDL (‘bad’) cholesterol, thereby lowering the risk of atherosclerosis. According to JAMA Network Open, vitamin E supplementation reduces the risk of heart disease, particularly in people with higher levels of oxidative stress. Research published in *Neurobiology of Aging* shows that higher levels of vitamin E in the blood are associated with better cognitive performance (including memory support) and a slower rate of mental decline. The antioxidant properties of vitamin E protect brain cells from degeneration and Alzheimer’s disease. Why will your skin love it too? Vitamin E has been used in the cosmetics industry for a full 10 years. And with good reason: it moisturises and softens dry and irritated skin. It promotes the healing of wounds, scars and acne. It reduces the formation of wrinkles and slows down the ageing process. Who is Dr Lucullus’s Vitamin E (soft capsules) particularly recommended for?

People working under stress. Smokers and those who drink alcohol. Active sportspeople. Older people. Vegans and vegetarians. People with skin problems (dry skin, eczema, psoriasis). If your daily diet does not include a handful of nuts, seeds, leafy greens and vegetable oils, your vitamin E intake is likely to be well below the recommended level.

Vitamin E is like a good friend it helps to protect, restore and improve what matters most to us: our health, appearance and overall vitality, giving the body the strength to cope with everyday challenges. Natural vitamin E isn’t just a trend; it’s the foundation of prevention and regeneration, a fact that’s also recognised in scientific circles. If you want to treat your body to something that makes sense and has a real effect, vitamin E is a great place to start. Because looking after yourself shouldn’t be a chore, but a gift we give ourselves every day… after all, it’s an investment in your future.

Do we need the 'sunshine' vitamin D3 only in winter?

When you feel the sun's rays on your skin, know that your body is creating one of the most important vitamins - D3, which was discovered thanks to centuries of research. The discovery of vitamin D3 became one of the most significant medical achievements of the 20th century, saving millions of lives: It was the year 1650 and in the streets of London, doctors noticed that more and more children were suffering from a strange disease called rickets (their bones were weak and brittle, legs deformed, growth slowed). It wasn't until 1919 that Dr. Huldschinsky exposed children with rickets to ultraviolet light and their bones began to heal! Three years later, biochemist McCollum discovered a substance that prevented rickets and called it vitamin D. Gradually, the existence of the most important form of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) was discovered.

When we hear the term ‘dietary supplement’, most of us immediately think of vitamin C, magnesium or protein. However, there is one substance that often goes unnoticed, even though it is literally essential for the functioning of every single cell in the human body. We’re talking about lecithin.

The sun’s shining, but you’re lacking ‘D’? Why you shouldn’t put off taking vitamin D until summer

Summer is in full swing, the temperatures outside are like a scorching oven, and as you look at that little bottle of vitamin D that has faithfully seen you through the whole winter, you say: “Right then, mate, you’re on holiday until October!” It sounds perfectly logical, after all. Vitamin D is the ‘sunshine vitamin’; there’s plenty of sunshine outside, so surely our bodies must be producing it with the greatest of ease.

Recently, however, especially with the development of tourism, we are gradually learning about other stimulants that people use, often on the other side of the planet. One of the oldest substances for promoting potency is Peruvian maca.

How to boost your energy with natural energisers

How to boost your energy with natural energisers

We live in an age where we are expected to perform at 100 per cent all the time. When fatigue sets in, most of us automatically reach for a quick fix in the form of a coffee or a can of energy drink. Although synthetic caffeine and refined sugar give us an immediate energy boost, this rapid surge is often followed by a sharp crash, which is frequently even more severe than the initial high. Nature, however, offers us more sophisticated and gentler tools that support our bodies in naturally producing and maintaining energy.

When it comes to children’s health, everything else usually takes a back seat. Especially when they’re still very young and you’re just trying to work out what’s troubling your little one. Very often, heart-wrenching crying is caused by digestive problems – a bloated tummy that can’t cope with all the new foods it’s still learning to digest. Anyone who’s had a baby who’s cried for hours on end knows just how awful that distress is. Yet very often, advice from experienced older neighbours – who have ‘teas for everything’ – has proved helpful.
