Vitamin B1 Thiamine

Vitamin B1 belongs to the group of vitamins B1 to B12, which we refer to as B-complex. Under this name, it is possible to buy a vitamin supplement containing all the important vitamins of this group. But what if I only need one of them? Fortunately, you don't have to take the whole group - the most important vitamins from the B group can be obtained separately today.

The group of B vitamins was discovered in 1911 by Casimir Funk, who introduced the word "vitamin", which we use so often today. B1 - thiamine (or aneurin), is water-soluble and sensitive to heat. It maintains oxygen levels in the blood and is important for carbohydrate metabolism. It also contributes to the proper functioning of the nervous system, reduces stress, and supports heart health. It also has a very beneficial effect against fatigue.

Its increased intake is recommended in cases of nicotine, arsenic, or lead poisoning. If you think that you have no way to such poisoning, its reduced volume can also occur if you often and heavily drink tea or coffee. Both contain the substance tannin, which causes more difficult absorption of B1 into our body. Thiamine - B1 can be stored in the human body in an amount of approximately 30mg, which lasts us 4-10 days, so we must take it in food.

B1 is found in small amounts in almost every food of plant or animal origin. If we wanted to take it exclusively from food, the most vitamin B1 is found in: whole grains, rice, meat, and fish. It is found in yeast, unpolished rice, legumes, potatoes, eggs. From fruits, it is grapes and plums.

Lack of vitamin B1 manifests as muscle pain, fatigue, lack of appetite (this disease is called beri-beri). If the symptoms worsen, depression, irritability, confusion, degeneration of the cardiovascular system, and muscles appear. In our country, the disease Beri-beri is relatively rare, but you can develop it by long-term consumption of foods rich in carbohydrates but poor in thiamine: polished rice, white flour, refined sugar...

The recommended daily dose of vitamin B1 is approximately 1.5mg for men and 1.1mg for women (1.5mg for pregnant women). With great physical exertion or stress, the consumption of thiamine increases. Its overdose is almost impossible, it is water-soluble and we excrete it in urine.

B1 as a special form of supplementary nutrition should be taken especially by people exposed to long-term stress or heavy physical work. People who suffer from fatigue and a feeling of lack of energy. People who have an unbalanced diet and eat unilaterally for a long time. Or athletes and very active people who need an increased amount of energy and especially the proper functioning of the heart and muscles under load.

Iodine-Kelp

Probably everyone who has watched the great series Chernobyl remembers the scene where the main female protagonist is handing iodine tablets to the secretary in the office of the Belarusian ministry, who, by the way, says she is pregnant. Iodine is a chemical element that our body needs for the thyroid gland to function properly. And anyone who has thyroid issues knows how much it influences in the body. It is truly incredible how intricately our bodies are assembled and what is required to ensure you are healthy and functional.

Surprisingly Resilient Maca - Peruvian Cress

This remarkable plant (Lepidium mayenii) from the Peruvian Andes, where it is grown at extreme altitudes (4000 m a.s.l.). It is incredibly resilient and can survive and grow in conditions where most other plant species would not survive, such as low temperatures, strong winds, and intense UV radiation. Its ability to adapt to harsh environments enriches it with nutrients and substances that positively impact the human body, enhancing resistance to both physical and mental stress.

B10 ... for your younger self

Excessive hair loss, slowed growth, or premature graying can have various causes, with diet playing a major role. Para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), also known as vitamin B10 (although it is not officially a vitamin), is among the significant nutrients that support hair health, skin, and overall vitality of the body. Additionally, it can influence the aging process. Despite its beneficial effects, it is less known today, although in the past it was considered almost a miraculous means of maintaining youth. In the 1950s, scientists studied PABA for its potential in combating degenerative diseases and recorded cases where graying was slowed down.

The First of Vitamins - B1

Maybe it's burnout ... that's the current description of the state when we feel different. When the coffee we loved no longer works and in the afternoon we are overwhelmed by unbearable fatigue, when in the evening we have no strength for anything, neither for sports nor for friends. And certainly not for another day at work. A nutritionist would describe this state with further findings of our diet with the words - „ You have a lack of thiamine (B1), which is essential for the proper functioning of the nervous system and the conversion of food into energy. Your diet is full of processed carbohydrates, but almost without B1. And when the body doesn't have enough thiamine, you can feel fatigue, forgetfulness, irritability, and even anxiety. And caffeine? It depletes thiamine in the body even more!“ We certainly wouldn't think that this state could be caused by a “triviality”. After all, many of us don't register thiamine, I admit it was also my case. This first of the discovered vitamins in 1912 was named by the Polish biochemist Funk with the term vita (necessary for life), amine (substances that contain nitrogen). Since then, it has gained more names, like aneurin, and for 25 years we have called it thiamine. It is essential, meaning it cannot be synthesized and must come from the diet. It sounds almost frightening that without it we wouldn't survive longer than a few days, at most weeks. This is because the body cannot store it for long and it is necessary to ensure its intake regularly, as it is irreplaceable for the proper functioning of the organism. On the contrary, its abundance helps improve concentration and memory.
